The bottom rollers on a sliding gate take the full weight of the panel every time it moves. Bent or debris-packed track

Shifted or sunken post
The post that anchors the track to the driveway is set in concrete, but soil moves – especially after a wet winter or in areas with clay-heavy ground. If that anchor has shifted even a quarter inch the track tilts with it, and the geometry that holds the gate in line is gone. Look at the track post from the side: if it is leaning toward or away from the gate instead of standing plumb, the footing has moved.
Failed or loose top guide
Taller and heavier gates use a top guide rail or guide bracket to keep the upper edge of the gate vertical. The fasteners on those brackets work loose over time, or the bracket itself bends if the gate is hit. When the top of the gate has nothing holding it upright it pivots outward at the top, and the bottom rollers follow by lifting out of the channel. If the gate is noticeably leaning outward at the top rather than standing straight, this is the likely failure point.

- Stop operating the gate immediately. Cut power at the breaker or disconnect the motor’s power supply. Running the drive motor against a gate that is off its track can strip the drive wheel, snap the rack, or burn out the motor.
