Most mornings you show up to a gate that quit working at the worst possible time – a motor that burned out the night before, a hinge that finally gave after twenty years of hard winters, an access system somebody wired in wrong three owners ago. Your job is to look at it, figure out what actually happened, and fix it so it doesn’t happen again. That’s the work. It’s hands-on, it’s diagnostic, and when you close that gate at the end of the day and it swings the way it was always supposed to, you know exactly what you did. We’ve been doing this kind of work since 1984, and the crew we’re building runs the same way now as it did then – trained right, backed up, and proud of what goes out the door.
Who We’re Looking For
- Gate Repair Technician – Someone who can look at a broken hinge, a stripped gear, or a shorted control board and work through it methodically until the problem is solved, not patched.
- Gate Installer – A person who takes a set of plans and a pile of steel and leaves a finished installation that a homeowner will look at for the next thirty years.
- Gate Automation Specialist – Someone comfortable with control boards, loop detectors, and the wiring logic behind LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, and Mighty Mule systems.
- Access Control Technician – A detail-oriented person who programs keypads, intercoms, and entry systems and leaves the homeowner knowing exactly how to use them.
- Welder / Fabricator – Someone who can lay a clean bead on wrought iron, square up a post, and take real satisfaction in metalwork that has to last.
- Customer Service Representative / Dispatcher – A calm, clear communicator who treats every call like it matters – because it does – and keeps the schedule tight so technicians can do their best work.
What We Offer
Real Training and a Clear Path
We don’t hand you a tablet and wish you luck. New technicians train alongside experienced crew members on actual jobs, learning the brands we service and the standards we hold. An apprentice who puts in the work moves toward lead tech status on a schedule that reflects skill, not just tenure. The path is real, and the people ahead of you on it are willing to show you how they got there.
Work You Can Stand Behind
Every job we send out is protected by the 90-Day Done Right Promise – written, no arguing, no exceptions. That’s not a marketing line; it’s how we run the shop. When you know the company stands behind the work, you approach every job differently. You’re not trying to get through it fast enough to move on. You’re doing it right because the standard says you do it right, every single time.
A National Brand, a Local Crew
Ironworks Gate Co. operates across 32 states, which means you get the training resources, equipment, and parts access of a national brand without losing the feel of a tight local crew. Your dispatcher knows your name. Your supervisor has worked the same jobs you’re working. And because we hire locally and train locally, the people you work beside are your neighbors, not strangers rotated in from somewhere else.
Steady, Year-Round Demand
Gates don’t take a season off. Spring brings hinge wear and post heave from ground movement. Summer means motors running hot. Fall and winter send control boards and sensors sideways. The demand for what we do is consistent, and it comes from homeowners who want the job done once and done properly – the kind of work that keeps skilled technicians busy without the boom-and-bust cycle of other trades.
No Experience? Read This.
If you’ve spent time in HVAC, automotive repair, electrical work, fencing, welding, or any trade where you diagnosed a problem with your hands and your head before you touched a tool, more transfers than you’d think. The logic of a gate motor isn’t so different from other mechanical systems you’ve worked on. The wiring follows rules you already understand. The metalwork is exactly what it looks like.
What we teach is the gate-specific side: how our nine supported brands behave, how our diagnostic process works, how we write up a job and talk through it with a homeowner before the first bolt turns. The first months on the crew are deliberate – you shadow, you assist, you ask questions, and you’re expected to. Nobody here mistakes silence for competence. If you’re good with your hands, honest about what you know and don’t know, and willing to learn the right way to do this, call us. That’s the profile we hire for more often than any credential.
