Franchisee Success Stories
The owners who do well here aren’t chasing a trend. They’re the ones who’ve already run something, or built something, or fixed enough things to know that showing up on time and doing what you said you’d do is rarer than it should be. They like metal. They like systems that make sense. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel; they need a wheel that stays round.
Meet Our Owners
Amit M., Phoenix Metro
Before Ironworks, Amit spent fourteen years managing commercial HVAC crews across Maricopa County. He knew how to dispatch technicians, how to price a job so the customer didn’t flinch, and how to spot a callback before it happened. What he didn’t know was how much he’d prefer working with homeowners directly.
“HVAC was always fighting the season,” he says. “Gate repair is steady. A gate doesn’t care if it’s July. When it breaks, it breaks, and the homeowner wants it fixed today, not next Tuesday.” Amit opened his territory in 2019. He runs three trucks now, and his oldest technician started as an apprentice pulling wire for gate openers in a Paradise Valley estate. “The 90-Day Done Right Promise sold me before anything else. I’ve worked places where ‘guarantee’ meant a lot of phone tag and a form to fill out. Here, it’s one sentence: we come back. No paperwork, no arguing. That’s a square deal.”
He mentions the K.E.Y.S. code sometimes in morning meetings, usually the “Your home first” line. His crew knows what it means. They’ve all been in houses where the customer is watching from the kitchen window, and they’ve all learned to leave the driveway cleaner than they found it.
Divya S., Dallas-Fort Worth
Divya was a mechanical engineer for a defense contractor in Arlington. Stable work, good benefits, and a commute that stole two hours of her day. She’d never considered franchising until her father-in-law’s automatic gate failed during a Texas ice storm, and she watched three companies either no-show or quote him a replacement he didn’t need.
“I knew enough about actuators and limit switches to see they were selling him a motor that was fine. That bothered me for weeks.” She called our franchise line the following month. “What I liked was the specificity. Nine brands, trained on all of them. Most places pick two or three and hope the customer doesn’t notice. Ironworks doesn’t do hope.”
She opened in 2021, timing that should have been terrible but wasn’t. Supply chains were chaos, but her training on FAAC and BFT systems meant she could source parts others couldn’t identify. Her DFW operation now covers Collin County down to Waxahachie. She still takes some field calls herself, especially for the older estate gates in Highland Park, where the ironwork predates the automation and you need to know both to touch it. “The ‘Krafted right’ value isn’t a poster. It’s whether you use the right hinge pin or the one that’s close enough. I’ve seen gates that were ‘fixed’ three times because someone kept using close enough.”
Michelle K., Kansas City
Michelle ran a small residential fencing company in Johnson County for eleven years. She knew gates, but only as an afterthought, the thing hung last on a fence line. When she started losing bids to companies that could offer automation and access control, she looked at expanding her own operation and at joining one that already had the systems built.
“I could have bought lifts and welders and tried to learn Mighty Mule programming on YouTube. Or I could plug into something that already worked.” She chose the latter in 2017. Her Kansas City territory now does more gate repair and automation in a month than her fencing company did in a year.
Michelle is the one who pushed us to formalize the apprenticeship path she wished she’d had. Two of her technicians started with no trade background, trained through the Ironworks program, and now run their own trucks. “The ‘Every time’ value - that’s the 400th job getting the care of the first. I remember job numbers. I know which ones were sloppy because someone was tired. We don’t do that here.” She sponsors the Johnson County Fair gate repair, the same one she walked through as a kid. “A century ago every town had an ironworks, and the gates it made are still swinging. I like being part of that continuity.”
Sana P., Tampa Bay
Sana’s background was in commercial real estate management, overseeing properties from St. Petersburg to Wesley Chapel. She spent a lot of time on vendor calls, and she noticed which trades answered at 6 PM on a Saturday and which ones sent her to voicemail. Gate companies were consistently in the second group.
“I started asking property managers who they used for automatic gates. Half didn’t have anyone reliable. The other half had a guy, but he was retiring, or he only did LiftMaster, or he wouldn’t return calls.” She saw the gap before she saw the franchise opportunity. When she found Ironworks, the 24/7 live answer was what hooked her, but the brand depth kept her.
“Nine automation brands. That’s not decoration. In Florida, you’ve got Ghost Controls on the rural properties, DoorKing on the gated communities, Elite on the older estates. If you show up trained on one and clueless on the others, you look like a handyman.” Sana opened in 2020, grew through the pandemic because gates still break even when other spending stops, and now runs four trucks across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. Her father helps with the books. Her brother runs welding on the custom estate jobs. “The ‘Standing behind it’ value - that’s the Keystone Standard. I’ve had two callbacks in three years. Both times, we were back the next day. No forms, no debate. That’s how you stay in a market for forty years.”
